Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has launched a sharp personal and political attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during a rally in Sangrur. Addressing the public gathering in Mann political stronghold Rahul Gandhi targeted the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the rising drug menace across Punjab. Highlighting his past interactions with Mann when both were Lok Sabha members the Congress leader made a direct allegation regarding the Chief Minister habits.

He used to sit with us in the Lok Sabha and tell jokes. By 11 AM you could smell alcohol on his breath Rahul Gandhi told the crowd. He added that while personal choices remain an individuals private matter a Chief Minister who gets intoxicated cannot effectively lead a state wide battle against substance abuse and narcotics.

Gandhi accused the AAP government of making false promises to clear Punjab of the drug crisis stating that synthetic drugs like chitta continue to destroy lives. He further alleged that the Punjab administration is not running independently and is instead being managed remotely from Delhi. The blistering remarks have sparked intense political controversy in the state drawing strong reactions from AAP leaders as campaign rhetoric intensifies in Punjab.
