A closely fought Rajasthan local body election has drawn attention after Independent candidate Jagdish Prasad defeated BJP candidate Ramsharan by just one vote. Prasad won the Ward No. 6 contest with 151 votes, while Ramsharan received 150 votes, according to the Times of India report citing IANS.
The result became more emotional for Prasad family because his mother died one day after casting her vote in the election. Her vote became especially significant because the entire contest was decided by a single ballot. With only one vote between the two candidates, even a small change in the voting numbers could have changed the final result. Prasad victory therefore became one of the closest contests in the Rajasthan local body polls.
The Ward No. 6 election also attracted attention because Prasad contested as an Independent candidate and defeated a BJP candidate. His victory came with a margin that is rarely seen in an election, making the result particularly notable. The incident has once again shown how important every vote can be in an election.
