New Delhi External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday gave a sharp response to a Pakistani journalist who questioned India over alleged terrorism at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The exchange took place during a press interaction on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Jaishankar was speaking along with Liberia Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti about the newly launched Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers. After their remarks a Pakistani journalist asked Jaishankar When will your government stop sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan?
Jaishankar replied A terrorist country is asking me that question. Come on. Indian Permanent Representative to the UN Harish Parvathaneni then told the journalist that he had heard the minister response loud and clear. The exchange happened a day after an Indian journalist questioned Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif outside the UN building. The journalist asked him when Pakistan would stop harbouring terrorists. Sharif did not respond to the question according to reports. The latest exchange comes as India continues to raise the issue of cross border terrorism at international forums. Jaishankar is in New York as part of India delegation for the UN General Assembly.
