India economy has recorded a strong 7.8% GDP growth in the April June quarter of 2026-27, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has used the moment to make a fresh appeal for Swadeshi and self reliance.
In a video message shared on Tuesday, PM Modi congratulated Indians for the strong economic performance despite global wars, uncertainty and supply chain disruptions. He said India needs to maintain its growth speed and become more self reliant.
The Prime Minister also asked citizens to think carefully about where they spend their money. He urged people to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, hold destination weddings in India instead of abroad and avoid buying gold unless it is necessary. His message was summed up through ideas such as Wed in India and Vocal for Local.
PM Modi said choosing Indian products and services can help strengthen local businesses and create more opportunities for the country youth. He stressed that greater use of Swadeshi products can support India journey towards becoming a developed nation. The appeal comes at a time when India is showing strong economic momentum, although global conflicts and high energy prices continue to create risks.
