Severe floods have once again hit the state of Assam in northeastern India after heavy continuous rains. Water levels in major rivers have risen rapidly, drowning hundreds of villages and leaving over 3 lakh people struggling to find safety and basic shelter.
According to official disaster management reports, districts like Charaideo, Sivasagar, and Golaghat are among the worst affected areas. Thousands of families have been forced to leave their submerged homes, while huge areas of farmland remain completely flooded. Farmers have suffered massive losses as their standing crops have been completely destroyed.
The Indian government and emergency rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are working day and night to rescue trapped families. Over 100 relief camps have been set up to provide displaced people with clean drinking water, dry food, and urgent medical checkups. Rescue workers are also using helicopters to airdrop essential food items in areas where roads are washed away.
Although floodwaters have started going down slowly in some regions, the situation remains serious. Weather experts have issued a fresh warning for heavy rainfall over the next few days, putting state authorities on high alert. Government officials have promised full financial support to rebuild damaged houses and roads as soon as normal conditions return.
