In a major step toward enhancing digital safety for young users, instant messaging platform WhatsApp has officially introduced optional parental control features for teen accounts. This update gives parents and guardians greater oversight over their children online privacy while maintaining the app fundamental commitment to user privacy.

Under the new supervision model, parents can link their WhatsApp account to their teenager device using a simple QR code setup. Once connected, parents can manage key privacy parameters secured by a unique 6 digit PIN. Guardians can now control who views their teen profile picture, status updates, and last seen details. Additionally, parents can restrict who can add their child to group chats, monitor activity alerts, and set boundaries regarding interaction with Meta AI features and channels.

Importantly, WhatsApp has designed these supervision tools without compromising user confidentiality. Parents will not be able to read private text messages or listen to personal voice and video calls, as end to end encryption remains fully intact across all conversations.

For Indian families, where online safety and screen time are growing concerns among parents, this safety update offers a balanced solution. It allows parents to protect teenagers from unknown callers, unwanted groups, and potential online scams, while still giving young users the space and privacy they need to stay in touch with friends and family.
