In a historic first, India national song, "Vande Mataram", will be sung from the ramparts of the Red Fort during this year Independence Day celebrations on August 15. This special moment marks a powerful milestone as the nation celebrates 150 years of the iconic patriotic song.
According to the Ministry of Defence, a new ceremonial order will be followed when Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives at the Red Fort. As soon as the Prime Minister arrives, "Vande Mataram" will be played while everyone stands in respect. After the song, the Prime Minister will hoist the national flag, followed by the national anthem and his speech to the nation.
To make the event grand, official invitation cards will feature the song lyrics so guests can easily sing along. An IAF helicopter will fly overhead carrying a special 150 year anniversary banner while showering fresh flower petals over the crowd. Moreover, 2,500 cadets and youth volunteers will form the words "Vande Mataram" on Gyanpath.
