In a massive move to protect public health, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a huge safety drive. Led by the strict and honest IAS officer, Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the FDA has conducted over 1,100 raids in just two months. He even used strict laws like MCOCA to stop illegal gutkha gangs.
No one is being spared in this strict checking. Famous old eateries in Mumbai like K. Rustom & Co. and Noor Mohammadi were caught for poor hygiene. Big global food chains like Dominos Pizza, KFC, Pizza Hut, and McDonalds, along with top clubs like the Cricket Club of India (CCI), faced temporary license suspensions because of pest problems and dirty kitchens. The online delivery world also faced the heat. The FDA suspended the licenses of 14 dark stores run by Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart because they failed to keep proper temperatures and cleanliness.
While food places got temporary bans, the FDA took permanent action against medical companies. After checking 434 places, the FDA permanently canceled the licenses of 10 Ayurvedic medicine makers, including Pune Inducare Pharma. These companies were making medicines in very dirty conditions with insects and fungus. Another 135 Ayurvedic companies were given strict warnings. Under Tukaram Mundhes fearless leadership, public safety is finally coming first in Maharashtra.
