A heartbreaking incident of severe negligence was reported from the Naini area of Prayagraj Uttar Pradesh where an eight year old Class 3 student lost her life after being crushed by her own school van. The tragic accident occurred on Thursday afternoon when the victim identified as Udyanshi Pathak arrived home from school in a private van.
According to witnesses and family members the young girl got down from the rear of the vehicle and was trying to free her schoolbag strap which had caught in the door. Without checking if the child was clear of the vehicle the driver suddenly reversed the van at high speed trapping the young student between the reversing vehicle and a nearby boundary wall.
Hearing the loud cries of panic from children inside the vehicle local residents and family members rushed out and pulled the injured child from under the van. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Outraged local residents caught the driver and handed him over to the police who have taken him into custody for further investigation. Transport officials noted that the van was operating without a mandatory attendant or helper pointing to a severe violation of student transport safety guidelines.
