Fear and panic gripped Chandigarh Sector 22 after a 17 year old Class 11 student was shot dead in broad daylight inside an auto rickshaw. The auto driver was also shot in the shoulder during the attack while another student traveling with them managed to escape without injury.
The young victim identified as Naitik was returning home in an auto rickshaw when motorcycle borne attackers began following them. Sensing danger Naitik asked the driver to speed up but the assailants opened fire near the local temple. One bullet pierced through the front glass after striking the driver shoulder and another hit Naitik in the chest. Though local shopkeepers rushed to help and sent him to a nearby hospital in a taxi doctors could not save the teenager.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the shooting was sparked by a rivalry between student groups that escalated after an assault video was shared on social media. Following a swift investigation Chandigarh Police arrested a minor suspect and seized a 32 bore pistol used in the crime. Security has been tightened in the area and police are reviewing CCTV footage to trace all individuals involved in this violent incident.
