A police officer in Jammu and Kashmir Ramban district has been ordered to undergo one month of treatment at a de addiction centre after he was found consuming alcohol while on duty. The decision was taken by Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anna Lata Sinha following complaints about the officer behaviour. The officer, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), was facing complaints from local residents and senior police officials. According to reports, similar complaints had also been made against him earlier.

The matter was checked during a surprise inspection. A medical officer examined the ASI and reportedly confirmed that alcohol consumption had made him unfit to perform his official duties. Officials said the action was taken after checking the facts and medical findings, rather than on the basis of suspicion alone. Following the medical assessment, the SSP ordered the ASI to stay at the de addiction centre at District Hospital Ramban for one month. The aim is to help the officer receive treatment while also maintaining discipline within the police force.

Ramban is considered a sensitive district because of security concerns in the region. Police personnel are expected to remain alert and ready to respond to emergencies. The SSP has made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for misconduct during duty hours. The action is intended to remind all police personnel that they must carry out their responsibilities carefully and professionally. The case has also highlighted the importance of addressing alcohol related problems through treatment while ensuring accountability in public service.
