The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched a new training programme called UDYOG to help students gain practical skills and prepare for jobs in the biotechnology and biomanufacturing industries. UDYOG stands for Upskilling and Development for Young Graduates. The programme aims to reduce the gap between what students learn in college and the skills companies need in the workplace.

The programme is designed for pre final year and final year students pursuing BTech, MTech and MSc degrees in biotechnology and related fields at colleges across India. Students from eligible disciplines can apply to gain industry focused training. The programme will follow three stages. First, students will complete three months of online learning through IIT Madras. They will learn from experts and understand how biotechnology industries work.

Students who successfully complete this stage may be selected for four weeks of practical training at the IIT Madras Biofoundry. This stage will help them understand laboratory processes and real world biomanufacturing activities. In the final stage, selected students may get opportunities for industry exposure, mentorship and internship interviews through industry partners.

The first batch is scheduled to begin on January 18, 2027. The earlybird registration deadline is December 15, 2026. This initiative could be useful for students who want to build careers in biotechnology and gain experience beyond classroom learning. Interested candidates should check the official programme website for eligibility details, fees and application updates before registering.
