Elon musk targeted Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani in a sarcastic social media post on X, calling him Prime Minister Ambani and asking if he is the real boss of India due to prolonged delays in launching Starlink.
The disagreement began over how the Indian government should allocate spectrum for satellite internet services. Elon Musk supported administrative allocation, while Reliance Jio argued that an auction would ensure fair competition between satellite and traditional telecom companies.
In March 2025, Reliance Jio and SpaceX announced a partnership to bring Starlink services to India, showing that business competition and cooperation could exist simultaneously. However, Musk did not provide publicly verified evidence that Ambani had personally blocked Starlink. The Indian government rejected claims of unfair treatment and stated that satellite operators must meet the required security and regulatory conditions before launching their services.
