The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has issued a strict deadline to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke announced on Friday that if the CEC does not step down from his post by Saturday, September 26, the party will launch massive nationwide protests starting October 2, on Gandhi Jayanti.
Addressing the media, Dipke stated that the central protest will begin in Mumbai on October 2 and quickly spread across major cities in India to "save democracy". This major announcement comes amid a heated political row over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The controversy erupted after reports revealed serious internal differences and objections raised by two other Election Commissioners regarding key decision making processes within the Election Commission.
Dipke sharply criticized CEC Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of compromising the fundamental voting rights of Indian citizens. Along with the demand for Kumar immediate resignation, the CJP has called for an instant freeze on the SIR exercise, a rollback to the January 2025 voter list, and a pause on upcoming elections until an independent panel investigates the matter. With major opposition parties also mounting pressure on the poll panel, political tensions are rising rapidly across the nation as the Saturday deadline draws near.
