In a massive milestone, artificial intelligence giant OpenAI announced that its advertising business has crossed $1 billion in annualized revenue run rate. Remarkably, the company reached this huge figure in just 200 days after first launching advertisements inside ChatGPT.

Indian businesses can now directly take advantage of this new ad platform. OpenAI has officially launched self service access to its Ads Manager across India, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, bringing the service to more than 40 countries. Small and medium sized businesses account for a major share of this fast growing ad money.

Ads are shown to free users and lower cost Go plan subscribers, who form the vast majority of ChatGPTs 1 billion weekly active users. OpenAI clearly assured that advertisements will be clearly labeled, will not change chatbot answers, and advertisers will never get access to private chat messages.

This strong ad growth comes as OpenAI prepares for a highly anticipated Initial Public Offering (IPO). The company is currently valued at $852 billion, with a total revenue run rate crossing $40 billion. First tested in the U.S. in February, ChatGPT ads have rapidly become a top choice for digital advertisers alongside platforms like Google and Meta. OpenAI plans to launch even more ad features to help local companies connect with daily AI users.
