A security breach from 2023 has come back into focus after a retired police officer recalled how an Army man allegedly used a tampered National Security Guard (NSG) identity card and a fake duty pass to get close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Mumbai visit.
The incident happened on January 19, 2023, at the MMRDA ground in Mumbai Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), where PM Modi was attending the inauguration of Metro lines. According to the retired assistant commissioner, the Army man was a fan of PM Modi and his main aim was reportedly to see him from close range, not to create any security threat. Mumbai Police registered an FIR on January 20, 2023, under the Indian Penal Code. The accused was released on bail by a Bandra court the next day. Police later filed a chargesheet in April 2023, within 90 days of registering the case. However, the trial has still not started.
Interestingly, the retired officer said the Army man and his wife later attended PM Modi 2024 affordable housing programme in Navi Mumbai with a valid invitation pass. When contacted by TOI, the Army man questioned why the old case was being discussed again and said information about the alleged fake duty pass should be obtained from BKC Police.
