Popular YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, along with comedian Samay Raina and others, has approached the Supreme Court seeking relief from multiple FIRs lodged against them across different states. The cases stem from alleged controversial remarks made on their YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.

FIRs Filed Across Multiple States

The Maharashtra Cyber Department has registered an FIR against the show, citing the use of “vulgar and obscene” language by participants, judges, and guests. Additionally, Assam Police have also filed a case against Allahbadia, Raina, and others for allegedly “promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussions.”

The charges include various sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the IT Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. Law enforcement agencies are demanding the removal of all episodes of the show from digital platforms.

Controversial Episode Sparks Outrage

The controversy primarily revolves around a specific episode where Allahbadia posed an inappropriate question to a contestant. The remarks drew severe criticism from social media users and legal experts alike, leading to multiple complaints being filed across the country.

Public Apology Issued By Ranveer Allahbadia

In response to the backlash, Ranveer Allahbadia publicly apologized, admitting that his comment was inappropriate and in poor taste. He further acknowledged that comedy is not his area of expertise and expressed regret over the situation.

The National Commission for Women has also intervened, summoning Allahbadia, Raina, and other show creators for a formal hearing. Additionally, political leaders have raised concerns over the nature of content on digital platforms, with some advocating for stricter regulations on OTT platforms and social media content.

Content Removal and Ongoing Investigations

Following the outrage, YouTube took down the controversial episode. However, investigations continue, with law enforcement agencies scrutinizing the entire series.
