TikTok Website is LIVE in India, Is TikTok Getting Unban in India?

For a brief moment, Indian social media lit up with excitement. Some users reported that TikTok official website opened smoothly on their devices after years of being inaccessible. Screenshots and memes flooded platforms like X and Reddit. Sparking speculation that the short-video giant could be on its way back to India or we may be seen soon tiktok unban in india. Has the government quietly lifted the ban, or is this just a technical glitch?

Many were quick to believe that ByteDance, TikTok parent company, might be preparing for a relaunch. After all, TikTok had built a massive creator economy in India before the ban in June 2020. It was the country’s most downloaded app at the time, and the sudden block left millions of influencers scrambling for alternatives like Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. The idea of its comeback naturally triggered curiosity and excitement among users.

Government Response Clears This Rumour

Amid the frenzy, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued a statement that shut down the speculation. Officials clarified that no such order has been passed to unblock TikTok. The Department of Telecommunications also confirmed that TikTok website continues to remain under restrictions across service providers. In other words, the platform is not back officially.

The original ban on TikTok was enforced alongside 58 other Chinese apps in 2020, citing national security and data privacy risks. The decision came during the India-China border tensions in Galwan. Authorities had raised concerns that apps linked to Chinese firms posed threats to user data and digital sovereignty. Since then, ByteDance has made no major headway in negotiating a return, and the government has shown no signs of reconsidering its stance.

The brief accessibility could have been a temporary glitch, but it has reignited conversations around whether India will ever allow TikTok back. For now, the answer remains no. The website might have flickered to life for some, but the official position stands unchanged the ban is still in place, and TikTok remains blocked in India.
