OpenAI Launches New 'ChatGPT Go' Plan In India, Just ₹399 a month

OpenAI has rolled out a new, affordable ChatGPT subscription plan named ChatGPT Go, exclusive to India for now. Priced at ₹399 per month, this is less than one-quarter the cost of ChatGPT Plus, which runs at ₹1,999 a month. The launch happened today, August 19, 2025, marking a major push into one of OpenAI fastest growing markets. This Go plan gives users far more than the free tier. Expect up to ten times more messages, image generation, file uploads, and even longer memory. It uses the advanced GPT-5 model and delivers noticeably faster responses.

What’s smart about the launch is the payment method. Users can pay in Indian rupees, via familiar UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm. That removes currency conversion hassles and brings pricing into everyday reach.

OpenAI is deliberately positioning India as a test ground for ChatGPT Go before considering expansion into other markets. It complements existing plans Free, Plus and Pro (which costs ₹19,900 a month) offering a smoother upgrade path for casual users, students, creators or developers on a budget.

What this means is simple. ChatGPT Go makes powerful AI tools accessible without breaking the bank. If you only need more than the free plan offers but aren’t ready for deep research, video creation or agent mode, this hits the sweet spot. And in a country with almost a billion internet users, affordable tiers like this could shape how AI becomes part of everyday life.
