Indian telecom provider Jio has expanded a compelling artificial-intelligence offer in partnership with Google. The company now provides its entire base of 5G users access to the Google AI Pro plan free for 18 months. Originally limited to users aged 18 to 25. The eligibility now covers all age groups with active unlimited 5G plans priced at ₹349 or more. Subscribers who meet the criteria receive premium features. Includes access to Google’s advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro model and Veo 3.1 for AI-powered video generation. They also gain 2 TB of cloud storage across Google Photos, Gmail and Drive, plus enhanced research tools including NotebookLM. Experts estimate the market value of this bundle at around ₹35,100.
The company claims it designed the offer to be straightforward. Eligible users simply open the MyJio app, look for the “Early access” banner, tap “Claim now” and agree to terms. Once activated, users can check their status through the Gemini app. From a strategic viewpoint, this move places Jio and Google at the centre of India’s consumer-AI race. By offering high-tier AI tools at no cost, they aim to drive widespread adoption and position themselves as leaders in next-generation digital services. Other industry players had begun exploring similar efforts, but this rollout stands out for its scale and depth.
For Jio users, this means they not only get a free subscription but also gain access to tools that were earlier restricted to premium users. Content creators may experiment with AI video generation, students or researchers can explore advanced AI assistance, and general users gain expansive cloud storage. The challenge, however, lies in ensuring the infrastructure supports demand and that users fully understand terms and conditions.
Businesses may view this development differently. On one hand, mass access to advanced AI among consumers creates more AI-savvy markets. On the other hand, enterprises will be asking how to monetise heightened user expectations and whether similar AI tool drops will appear in B2B offerings. Google and Jio already hint at enterprise ambitions through their broader collaboration. In short, the Jio-Google initiative marks a significant shift in the Indian AI landscape. By removing cost and age barriers, the companies make advanced AI tools accessible to millions. Whether this leads to a meaningful change in how users engage with AI. How services adapt remains to be seen but for now the opportunity is significant and immediate.
