A new leak suggests that Apple upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max could become the heaviest model in the company history. According to a post on Weibo cited by leaker Instant Digital. The device may weigh around 243 grams, marking a roughly 10-gram increase over earlier flagship models. Apple typically makes smaller tweaks rather than sweeping design changes year over year. This time, the change appears to involve increased thickness beyond the current depth of 8.75 mm. The leaker doesn’t specify exactly how much thicker, but even a marginal increase could impact the weight. The anticipated weight of 243 g would surpass the 240 g of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the 233 g of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Several factors could drive this added weight. A thicker case is one obvious cause, but internal changes such as a larger battery or heavier components could also contribute. The leaker did not clarify which elements are changing. Interestingly, the lighter 221 g iPhone 15 Pro Max and 227 g iPhone 16 Pro Max used a titanium chassis. Earlier and later models reverted to aluminum.

While there is no guarantee these speculations will come true. The track record of Instant Digital suggests some weight to the rumours. The outlet previously called other features such as the frosted glass on iPhone 15 and the “Camera Control” feature though reliance on Weibo-based leaks adds caution.

From a user perspective, extra weight can matter in daily use. A heavier phone may feel sturdier and more premium to some. But it could also become tiring to hold for long periods or add to pocket bulk. If Apple pushes for improved battery life, camera upgrades or both, the weight increase might be the trade-off. In essence, what this leak signals is that Apple could be reshaping its premium iPhone mark not by slimming down but by beefing up. Whether this change pays off in experience and performance remains to be seen when Apple officially reveals the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
