The Indian government has launched a new mobile app called GOIStats, designed to enable citizens, researchers, and policymakers to access official data with a single tap. Released on June 29, 2025, the app is expected to revolutionize how users interact with government statistics.
Seamless Access to Open Data at Fingertips
Developed by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) through the National Sample Survey Office, GOIStats aims to consolidate multiple datasets into one intuitive platform. Instead of navigating complex websites, users can now explore data on topics such as GDP estimates, consumer prices, employment surveys, and infrastructure projects all within the app.
The app connects directly to the Open Government Data (OGD) platform, which already hosts over 482,000 datasets and 196 API endpoints, including economy, health, and education statistics. GOIStats presents this data with clean visualizations, filtering tools, and download options, making it ideal for non-experts.
Enhanced Transparency, Participation, and Innovation OF GOIStats
By simplifying data access, GOIStats strengthens government transparency and responsiveness. Citizens can track schemes, state performance, and economic trends, helping spark public oversight and informed debate. Researchers and students can streamline data collection, while programmers and civic tech innovators can tap into APIs for apps, dashboards, and hackathons.
In fact, MoSPI has already promoted a related hackathon “Innovate with GOIStats” to create data-driven tools using the app’s backend databases .
Government officials hope GOIStats will foster evidence-based policymaking, empower grassroots activism, and support private-sector analytics. The app currently covers national and state-level updates, but future versions may include local datasets, customized alerts, and integration with emerging platforms like the National Data Analytics Platform (NDAP).
With GOIStats, India takes a major step toward making government data more accessible and actionable. Whether you’re a policymaker, student, or citizen, this free app brings transparency and insight directly to your phone no clicks required.
