Reliance Industries (via its telecom arm Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, or Jio) has teamed up with Google LLC to bring premium AI capabilities to Indian consumers. Jio users can get 18 months of free access to the premium Google AI Pro plan which includes access to the advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro (often referred to as “Google Gemini”) model at no extra cost. Jio is effectively giving its eligible 5G users a high-end AI subscription bundled with their telecom plan. The move signals that major telcos see AI services as part of their ecosystem, not just data or voice.
The plan is valued at ₹35,100 per user for 18 months. It gives access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, 2 TB cloud storage across Google services (Drive/Photos/Gmail), advanced AI tools (image/video generation, deep research) and more. Initially for Jio users aged 18-25 years on eligible unlimited 5G plans (starting at ₹349) both pre and postpaid. It’s part of a broader push (Jio + Google Cloud and Reliance Intelligence) to embed AI capabilities in India’s digital ecosystem.
While the offer is “free”, you must remain on an Eligible Unlimited 5G Jio plan for the 18 months. If you downgrade or leave the plan, the benefit may vanish. Although it says “users aged 18-25 first”, official notes suggest it will “eventually” roll out to other age groups. Activation happens via the My Jio app if you miss the banner or claim window, you may lose out. Even after activation, you may need to link Google account /verify etc.
How to Get Your Free Google Gemini Access?
Step 1: Open the My Jio app on your phone (make sure you’re using your eligible Jio number).
Step 2: On the homepage, locate the Google AI Pro banner (it may read something like “Pro plan of Google Gemini FREE”). Tap it, then select Register interest (or “Claim now”). A screen will appear that says “Thank you for your interest”.
Step 3: You’re done! just wait for confirmation from Jio. They’ll notify you when your eligibility is confirmed and the AI Pro subscription is linked to your Google account.
For Jio subscribers this is a strong value add, access to one of Google top AI models bundled with telecom service. AI services are becoming part of the telecom/consumer bundle, not just standalone apps. If you’re eligible (18-25, unlimited 5G plan), it’s worth claiming quickly.
