Electric cars are no longer a luxury segment in India. With growing demand, several manufacturers have started offering affordable EV options that combine practicality with cost efficiency. For buyers looking under the 10 lakh budget, choices are limited but promising.
Top Choice: Tata Tiago EV
Among the very few options under ₹10 lakh, Tata Tiago EV stands out as the best electric car in this segment. Priced from ₹8.69 lakh (ex-showroom), it offers value without compromising on core features. It comes in two battery pack variants – 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh. The smaller one gives a claimed range of 250 km while the larger pack offers up to 315 km.
The car supports both standard and fast charging. A 15A home socket takes about 6 hours for a full charge, while fast charging can top it up from 10 to 80 percent in under an hour. Tiago EV interior feels premium for the price, and it offers a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment and decent boot space.
Tiago EV drives smoothly within the city. Acceleration is linear and silent, making it ideal for daily commutes. It comes with multiple driving modes and regenerative braking to further improve efficiency. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors.
Currently, no other mainstream EV offers a complete package under ₹10 lakh. MG Comet EV comes close in price but is more compact and suited only for city rides. It lacks the space, range and features that Tiago EV offers.
Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are working on launching budget EVs in the next 1-2 years, but for now, Tata leads the affordable segment. With strong after-sales service, reliable battery warranty and wide charging support, Tata Tiago EV is the most practical and trusted electric vehicle under 10 lakh in India today.
