Diwali in 2025 will be celebrated over five days, beginning with Dhanteras and ending with Bhai Dooj. Each day holds deep cultural meaning, symbolising wealth, victory, devotion, and love. This year, the celebrations will fall in October. Families across India are already looking up the right muhurat timings to perform their rituals. The festival begins with Dhanteras, which people will celebrate on Saturday, October 18, 2025. It marks the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight of Kartik month and is considered ideal for buying gold, silver, and new utensils. People believe Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber visit homes on this day to bless them with prosperity. People will perform the Dhanteras puja between 7:16 PM and 8:20 PM, the most auspicious period of the evening. During the Pradosh Kaal which extends from 5:48 PM to 8:20 PM.

Diwali Week, From Choti Diwali to Bhai Dooj

The second day, Choti Diwali or Naraka Chaturdashi, will fall on Sunday, October 19, followed by the main Diwali or Lakshmi Puja on Monday, October 20, 2025. Many regions observe both on the same day depending on local panchang. The main Diwali marks the triumph of light over darkness. Homes light up with diyas, families exchange sweets, and everyone performs the sacred Lakshmi Puja between 7:08 PM and 8:18 PM, the most auspicious time of the evening. Performing the ritual during Vrishabha Kaal, up to 9:03 PM, is also highly favourable.

After Diwali comes Govardhan Puja on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The day commemorates Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan Hill to protect villagers from rain. Devotees prepare a grand ‘Annakut’ feast as an offering. The morning muhurat will be from 6:26 AM to 8:42 AM, and the evening from 3:29 PM to 5:44 PM.

The festival concludes with Bhai Dooj on Thursday, October 23, 2025. It celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, with the Aparahna muhurat from 1:14 PM to 3:35 PM. In short, Diwali 2025 will bring five days of faith, celebration, and renewal. From buying gold on Dhanteras to honouring sibling love on Bhai Dooj, each day reminds us that true prosperity lies in light, gratitude, and togetherness.
